EMILY L. CASANOVA, PHD

My laboratory focuses primarily on the study of the autism spectrum. One of my major interests concerns the etiological overlap between autism and hereditary connective tissue disorders, such as Ehlers-Danlos syndrome/hypermobility spectrum disorders (EDS/HSD). Similarly, we are studying the phenotypic relationship between EDS/HSD and Fragile X spectrum disorders, which seem to share significant overlap. The second branch of my work involves the study of the genetics underlying rare autism-associated syndromes, how those genes have evolved over time, and what roles they play in metazoan development.
